It’s Here!

Posted in Book Reviews at 2:56 pm by mywords

I received my first book as a Thomas Nelson Book Review Blogger, this week.

I chose the Chronological Study Bible, as my first book. I’m still wading my way through the introduction and explanation as to how it was all compiled.

But, having studied the Bible for college courses, freelance projects and my own devotional writing, my first thought was how much work it had taken these Biblical experts to research where all these reading fit into history and then to blend them as accurately as possible. I can’t imagine the amount of hours this much have taken.

My second thought was how much I’m looking forward to getting a new perspective on some of the happenings in the Bible. I’m finding out how much the Bible is out of order and I’ve always struggled with history. Particularly through 1 & 2 Samuel, Kings and Chronicles. I could never keep all the kings straight. So, I’m very much interested in seeing what they have done with these books and instead of reading the Bible as a bunch of stories set in history, I will be reading the Bible stories in their historical context. This will become particularly interesting when it comes to Christ’s birth, but I’m also looking forward at seeing the Hebrews in Egypt, and the Babylonian Exile.

Well, must get to it. Several things to tackle today – one of the reasons I love Saturdays, my catch up day.

Whew!!!

I took on three new projects this week, but with my husband working midnights and some housekeeping type things that have been driving me batty – and in my attempts to get more on top of the housekeeping – I’ve been absolutely swamped this week.

So, I was quite happy (not to mention, relieved) when one of my clients e-mailed me to tell me that the conference she was presenting at – for which she had hired me to write something – was postponed until January. I had promised her that I would have the project completed and sent to her by today. As the week dragged on, as hard as I tried, I just could not seem to make it to the computer to get more than one of her assignments done which meant I would have to cram them all in on Saturday. Well, now I have a few more days.

One of my new projects is an ongoing transcription job for a dental office in California. I worked for 6 years as a transcriptionist for an oral surgery practice – slightly more specialized than general dentistry – so this project was perfect for me. They sent me a link for their digital recorder and a few files to try out to make sure the download worked. Unfortunately for them – but, fortunately for me – it didn’t. This means I have a few more days to clear out some other things, which have been nagging at me and I (and they) will have to rely on my 100wpm typing speed to get them unbacklogged. (Is that a word?)

Anyway…I am planning to take the weekend and get a proofread done, which is due urgently and to get a good bit done on a content edit. I have three books to critique, as well, and will be participating in a judging contest for the Silicon Valley Romance Writers Association….gotta get reading!

Visitors

Posted in Family at 2:07 pm by mywords

Well, no, not really. My parents could hardly be considered visitors. For the last several years, instead of shipping the Christmas presents, my parents have driven down to drop them off. When they were working this used to mean a whiplash turn around for them to get back. Now that they’re retired they can take a few more days – although my mother’s job doesn’t always allow for a predictable break.

They drown up from London on Thursday and left to head back this morning. It’s always a nice visit. They have the extra bonus of seeing their youngest grandchild who is now nearly 3 months (Nov 20).

Bids Won!

Posted in Writing at 12:36 am by mywords

I won two, today! One is a daily transcription job for a dental office in California. I worked six years as a transcriptionist in an oral surgery firm, so this job was perfect for me (and them). Most medical transcription jobs are – well – medical and I’ve been tested up here and been told that I don’t have the terminology for medical.

The second is to write a book for a pastor based in New York. It’s not well paying, but it is the one I’m most looking forward to. We talked for nearly an hour and I really like his idea, and will be very proud to get this done for him!

On the docket

Posted in Writing at 12:36 am by mywords

Okay, things coming for this week – I need to finish the edits on two partial manuscripts, proofread of a full manuscript, continue a content edit of a full manuscript. I’m receiving another full manuscript for critique sometime after Tuesday. I have to get writing articles for one client (would like to be done that one by Christmas). Ideally, I would like to have all this done by the end of November since I have another transcription project that’s pretty much full-time for two or three weeks.

Will see how things go, particularly with my parents arriving on Thursday!

Tim Hawkins

If you ever get a chance to see Tim Hawkins go and see him. What a riot! I just went and saw him with a friend. Our church hosted the event to a packed house. Well worth it.

Deadlines, deadlines

Posted in Writing at 12:16 pm by mywords

Just when I thought my to-do list couldn’t get any longer…..another copyedit and one I couldn’t turn down because I was requested for it and because I was really looking forward to reading it.

Just to summarize I have to finish reading 2 books that I’m judging for a contest (scores due Nov 10), provide an outline for a project for a client (for a presentation she’s doing at the end o the month), finish copy edit/critique on two batches of chapters (two chapters of one and the rest of the manuscript; and 4 chapters of another), a full content edit for another manuscript, and the copyedit on this most recent one (needed by the end of the month). I have blog content to write for two other sites, and 25 articles for another client. And by the end of the month I will have a transcription project.

Throught the night!

Posted in Family at 4:45 pm by mywords

Well, I was complaining earlier about being sleep deprived and blaming that for my relative brainlessness…of course I could never have anticipated feeling really dopey after getting a full night’s sleep either.

Brent whimpered only once last night around 3:30 but I never heard a peep out of him until after 7 this morning. The previous two or three nights he

Ann O’Bannon’s second book is due out before Christmas – Star Born. If you missed her first book “Star Dust”, though, hopefully it will be re-released soon, but you shouldn’t have any trouble jumping in at this point. “Star Born” will be published by Lachesis Publishing (Nova Scotia, Canada).

I have read “Star Dust” and was anxiously waiting for the release of “Star Born”. Ann O’Bannon has an amazing imagination that does justice to her characters and fictional universe. I typically don’t read futuristic romance, but O’Bannon kept me glued to “Star Dust” and I’m hooked.

Keep an eye on Ann O’Bannon

Inbox Surprise

Posted in Writing at 7:05 pm by mywords

I love it when this happens. I was just thinking of closing up my Elance account because I’ve been a member for 9 months with no projects, and what do I find in my inbox this morning? A “congratulations your bid has been approved” message.

Gotta love it!
